Beach Fun at Home

Money is tight and you can’t afford to take your family to the beach this summer. Don’t worry. You can still make summer break fun for your kids by bringing the beach to them.

All you need is a little imagination and a few of these beach-related activities to turn your home into a seaside oasis:

EDIBLE FISH IN A CUP

Materials:

Blue Jell-o

Gummy fish

Clear plastic cups

Directions:

Make Jell-o per package instructions.

Divide Jell-o between the plastic cups (one for each child).

Once the Jell-o begins to gel, let the children add the fish.

Place cups back into the refrigerator and wait until it sets completely.

Remove and let your kids snack on their mini aquariums.

FRUIT LOOPS FISH BOWL

Materials:

Large piece of blue construction paper

Green pipe cleaners

Gold fish crackers

Fruit Loops

Glue

Directions:

Cut a circle from the large piece of blue construction paper, and then cut about an inch off one side of the circle to create a fish bowl shape.

Have kids glue Fruit Loops on the bottom part of the circle. This will act as the fish bowl gravel.

Next, twist green pipe cleaners into plant and seaweed shapes and glue onto the construction paper.

Finally, glue on goldfish.

Note: If you plan to keep this project for an extended amount of time, then spray it with hair spray to keep the bugs away.

PAPER PLATE JELLYFISH

Materials:

Paper plates

Yarn or ribbon

Clear cellophane cut into strips, glitter glue, sequins, etc.

Staples

Glue and/or tape

Directions:

Cut a paper plate in half.

Staple the two halves together so the cut part remains open.

Glue or tape pieces of ribbon, yarn or clear cellophane onto the open part of the plate.

Decorate jellyfish with glitter glue, sequins, etc.
