As luck would have it, even the rich and famous are susceptible to something that plagues many of us – injuries. Soccer superstar David Beckham, 31, suffered ligament damage while playing a match in Spain with his soon to be old team, Real Madrid last Sunday.
The injury came as he was trying to get the ball and crashed into an advertising sign (ouch). He tried to continue playing (soccer games only allow two subs per game), but he finally left the game in the 63rd minute. Beckham has been ordered by doctors to remain on the sidelines for the next six weeks. The family had preceded the soccer game with a happy occasion – attending a birthday party for their oldest son at a Madrid burger restaurant.
It looks like the injury may prevent any chances Beckham had of rejoining his English national soccer team, for which he was captain between November 2000 and July 2006. His injury however will not affect him and his family’s move to Los Angeles, although there were initially fears that it would. He, his wife (former Spice Girl Victoria), and their three sons Brooklyn, 8, Romeo, 4 and Cruz, 2 will move to America later this year so Beckham can play soccer with the L.A. Galaxy of the MSL. He signed a five-year deal with the team to help popularize soccer in America (once again – see the Once in a Lifetime link below). The deal will bring the Beckham family a payday of $250 million including endorsements.
As Michele mentioned in her blog last week, the family will also star in their own reality show. Until the show starts filming, Victoria has another hobby keeping her busy – blogging! Check out her blogs on her web site, dVb.
