Become a Prepper

I saw an interesting news story this morning about people who have been labeled as “preppers”. These people are simply doing what we have been told by our church leaders for years: Be Prepared.

Although, some of these “preppers” are taking it to the extreme, it is still the same concept. Being prepared in case of a disaster, or the end of the world as we know it.

We have been told time and time again to be prepared with the following:

A 3 Month supply of food

Drinking Water

Financial Resources

Those are just the minimal requirements that church leadership has asked us to have in each family. But, we are strongly encouraged to prepare even more with an even greater food storage, supplies, and clothing that might sustain us in the event that we are without food, water, or other resources.

It seems like the trend is catching on.

With the economy the way it is, more and more Americans are realizing that times are tough, and they might just get tougher. Many Americans who were “living the dream” have lost jobs, and homes, and other financial resources leaving them destitute.

The news story spoke of people building bunkers, collecting gun arsenals, and having food to last them an entire year. It is estimated that there are 3 million “preppers” out there. They even have websites and organizations like this one.

Do you have a food supply? I’m ashamed to say that I don’t have the bare minimum required of us. I, like so many other members use the excuse of not enough space, or we are moving around too much, or whatever other excuse we can come up with. However, it has been told to us over and over again to be prepared, and to build up these supplies. Yet, we still linger. We still think we can do it tomorrow.

This news story made me think again. How would I feel if all of these “preppers” out there that don’t have the guidance of a Prophet are prepared, and I, having known what I am supposed to do for years, am not?

We live in perilous times. My family is currently so blessed with the financial means we need to live a comfortable life, however, it can all be taken away in an instant. It’s time for us to jump on this bandwagon. It’s the kind that the Lord wants us to jump on, and take hold, and be prepared!
