‘Isn’t that what everyone wants- to be known, to be heard, to be loved as they are?’ This quote comes from another movie starring Melissa Gilbert. It is from ‘Her Own Rules’ the adaptation of a Barbara Taylor Bradford book.
The quote stopped me in its tracks. Isn’t that what I want? Isn’t that what you want? Someone who will accept you as you are and love you anyway?
As I look at my calendar for yesterday it tells me in this quote from Lois Picillo. ‘Jesus cannot forget us; we have been graven on the palms of His hands.’ How does that make you feel? Special ? It should. What a price Jesus paid because He loved us and wanted to rescue us from this world of sin.
Is this the way you love Him in return – that you would be prepared to give up anything for him? The rich ruler in Luke 18:18-23 wasn’t. He wanted eternal life but on his conditions. He wasn’t prepared to give up all for Jesus. Are you?
And what about your family and friends? What are you prepared to give up to in an effort to bring them to Jesus? Are you prepared to give up standing on your rights? Insisting on your own way? Using some of your time and skills and resources to help them find the Lord?
‘A good friend remembers what we were and sees what we can be,’Janette Oke says. Are you being a good friend? Looking for what your friends, work mates and neighbors can be?
In the forum we’ve been looking at what makes an acquaintance into a friend. Are you seeking to enlarge your circle of friends? Edward E Ford says ‘ Meeting someone for the first time is like going on a treasure hunt. What wonderful worlds we can find in others!’ Are you involved in a treasure hunt finding the good in those you meet? Or are you busy looking at their faults and thinking Jesus could never do anything with them. Too often we let outside appearances cloud our judgment.
Is there something you need to change in your life this week to be a better friend to those around you?
