Becoming an Efficient Housekeeper

HomemakingIt’s not uncommon to struggle with everything that needs to be done in a home.  But there are ways that you can not only become a better housekeeper but a more efficient one.

Personally, I really dislike wasting time.  Although I enjoy a clean, orderly home I prefer to get on with my day.  In other words, there are many other things I would rather do than spend too much time cleaning and organizing.

So through the years I have learned a variety of ways to be more efficient. And it all starts the night before.

I have a rule about going to bed.  I don’t do it unless the house is straightened, the dishes are put away, the clothes are folded or whatever else needs to be done.  This means enlisting the help of others.

If I can wake up to a house that is in good order, it starts my day off right.  I would rather stay up a little later to make sure everything is tidy.  To me, this is efficient.

Another way I can be efficient at taking care of my home is with a schedule.  I know which chores are done on what days.  By remaining consistent with this schedule, I am always on top of things.

Lists are another way to remain efficient.  We have a spot where everyone can write down items they need or we run out of.  I have a list of what I need to do that day.  These lists keep me on track.

I have also found that I am more efficient when meals for the week are planned out.  On Sunday I decide what we are going to eat and I write out my grocery list.

Monday night is when I do my shopping.  Knowing ahead of time what we are going to have, instead of wandering aimlessly through the store has saved me a lot of time.

Planning and preparing is the key to efficiency.  But it can also make a huge difference in your attitude.
