Do you watch the show Desperate Housewives? I don’t, but you can hardly look at the news without seeing an article here or there about what is going on behind the scenes with the actresses and more. Recently, one of the headlines was all about Marcia Cross, one of the actresses, who is expecting twins in real life. I’m not sure if her pregnancy was written into the show (I admit I have no idea on the details because I’ve never watched the show).
Currently, Ms. Cross is under a doctor’s orders to be on bed rest. So what is the show going to do? Creatively, they are going to shift the production of the show to the home of the actress and film her parts in her very own living room. Like most moms and moms-to-be working at home, the production will find a way to accommodate her personal schedule and medical needs.
The actress only had two more episodes to appear in for the season, so the production crew set up shop in the downstairs portion of her Los Angeles home. According to the actress’s publicist, the bed rest is for precautionary reasons only. The twins are due in just a few months and the producers want to accommodate her as much as possible.
Cross received a number of Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her work and prior to her appearance on Desperate Housewives, she was known for her role on Melrose Place. It’s funny to think that Cross’ living room is being redone and redecorated completely to appear just like the character’s she plays on the show. The actress goes on maternity leave after these two episodes are filmed and our best wishes go out to the actress and the twins she is expecting.
When it comes to working from home, most moms know that they have to make the best of the situations available to them. When a production like a television show is willing to accommodate the needs of a mother, we’ve got to admire how far we’ve come. I can imagine a few years ago, they would have just recast the part or abruptly written her off – not moved the production to her living room. So hats off Hollywood!
