Even after two movies, America’s love affair with the giant, slobbery St. Bernard had not come to an end, so film makers decided to make a third installment in the Beethoven series. This time, though, he is torturing a whole new family.
Richard Newton (Judge Reinhold) is George Newton’s brother. George and Alice are in Europe with their family, and can’t make it back in time to pick Beethoven up from his kennel before the big family reunion. Since Richard is going to the reunion, could he pick up Beethoven and deliver him to George and Alice at the reunion? Richard agrees, but didn’t catch just what it was he was supposed to deliver. When he discovers that it’s a huge dog, he’s a bit taken aback, but not as dismayed as his wife, Beth (Julia Sweeney). She’s a neat freak, and a beautiful motor home has been rented for their trip the reunion. She’s just sure that it will be ruined by the time they get to California, and she’s right – but even she didn’t properly estimate the amount of damage that would take place.
The kids, Brennan and Sara, constantly fight, and Brennan doesn’t even want to be on the trip. But when two stupid crooks start following the family to retrieve a DVD rented for the journey, upon which is hidden a computer operating system, the family comes together and puts the bad guys away. Of course, Beethoven knew those guys were up to no good the whole time, and has been watching over the family from the start. He’s even by Sara’s side when the bad guys accidentally kidnap her.
This movie contains a lot of slapstick humor but not a lot of deep plot. If you’re looking for a funny movie for your family, this one may be a hit.
This film is rated PG.
