Although I believe that something is better than nothing when it comes to exercise. The fact remains that your level of fitness will improve the longer you work out. So the question becomes, how do you make that happen?
It wasn’t that long ago when a friend of mine told me she had worked out at the gym for an hour. I was really impressed. Then she mentioned it was with another friend and they had gotten to talking so much, they lost track of time.
I can’t even imagine losing track of time while exercising. But I can definitely see how that might happen if you aren’t alone.
In fact, new research seems to support this. Women found they were able to go longer when they had a workout buddy. And when compared to those who exercised a shorter amount of time, they didn’t feel any more tired.
In this research however, the key was finding a workout partner who was stronger. Someone who is more physically active and can keep you motivated to go on.
But I still think there is something to working out with a friend you can chat with. I can see how you might get so caught up in a conversation that you just keep on going.
Of course, I suppose there comes a point in which it might be difficult to have a conversation. For instance, running on a treadmill or using a weight machine.
Still, it’s something to think about. Especially if you would like to get in some daily walks. Whether it’s outdoors or on an indoor track, having someone alongside you might make it more enjoyable and motivating.
If you do like to take walks outside, it’s probably safer to have someone with you anyway. That’s an added bonus.
With so many benefits to having a workout buddy, it might be the solution to your struggles.
