Best free homeschool programs online for 2009

Sometime back (December 2006) I gave the gift of five free homeschool resources that you can use. That was a long time ago. While these programs are still great for the homeschooler, and four out of five are still active, in the past few months, I have come across some homeschool programs that have literally blown my mind. For that reason I present to you the best new free homeschool programs online for 2009.

MEP math: If you wanted your child to get the kind of math education as children do in countries that lap us in rankings you will want to try MEP math. This free math program was developed in Hungary and is available to students all over the world. The bad news is that the parent needs to understand a bit of lesson planning in order to work with the program, but the good news is that you don’t have to pay to use it. It does however, come complete with a yahoo support group.

Khan Academy: You can’t deny that Youtube is the media of this generation. Then why not use it to teach high school math to high school students who can’t seem to stay off the website anyway? These video tutorials teach math through videos and web applications that will keep them engaged.

Hippocampus: Does your homeschooled high school student want to Participate in AP Exams without having to argue their way into a college course or drive across the county to the closest college? If so, they should check out Hippocampus which teaches Government, Biology, Calculus, Environmental Science, Physics, and more, some subjects in English and Spanish. These classes are taught at a college level and prepares students for the AP exams that will serve as high school credits and get them ahead in college. Classes are taught in video and text form and all information is provided online.

Learner.org: This website teaches k-12 and adult students all subjects using streaming videos and and optional materials you can purchase. They can be used as a supplement or as the basis for a course. Homeschool parents can also use this website to refresh themselves on curriculum before teaching it.
