To lose weight, people are often aware that they must change their eating habits and begin an exercise routine. A quest to lose weigh is not, however, just a matter of eating less and exercising more. It also requires examining exactly what you put into your body, like calories for example. How many calories should a person trying to lose weight put into his or her body each day? Well, that depends, of course on factors such as how tall you are, how much you weigh, your age, gender, heredity, and the amount of physical activity you get.
While a healthy calorie intake for each person may vary, no one wants to reach their daily calorie limit by filling up on liquid calories. Many of the beverages that people drink everyday are loaded with many calories. Every gulp you take has the potential to thwart your weight losing efforts.
When thinking about food, most people know what types of foods to avoid when they are trying to drop excess pounds—sweet treats, fatty foods and greasy foods are no-brainers. But it is important to know, if you want to lose weight that is, that there are beverages that should be avoided too. Unfortunately, those trying to lose weight may think nothing of it, because normally, a beverage is not of real substance. But there are, in deed, several high calorie drinks that should not wet your lips, unless sipped in moderation.
One big surprise to some is that many fruit juices should be avoided when trying to lose weight. They are not as healthy as one would think. These beverages contain high concentrations of sugar called fructose, which comes from the fruit itself. This type of sugar is just as bad as regular sugar, which is also very high in calories. For this reason, other sweet drinks like soda and sweetened tea are also good to avoid.
Also steer clear of fancy coffees. Warm favorites, such as cappuccinos, mochachinos and frappuchinos, may be high in flavor, but they are also high in calories. When filled with sugar, milk and topped with whipped cream, these drinks do nothing to the weight loser’s delight. They say that drinking lots of coffee will stunt your growth, but drinking these frothy drinks will certainly stunt your weight loss efforts. If you can’t live without a cup of Joe to get you going in the morning, try to drink it black. By taking your coffee black, you will also take in fewer calories.
Try to keep away from alcoholic beverages. In addition to being high in calories, beverages such as beer encourage people to eat foods that are high in fat. How many nights have you gone out for a few drinks and then found yourself at an all-night diner snacking on greasy French fries?
So if you find that you’ve been eating right and exercising more, yet don’t understand why you have not reached the weight you desire, remember to examine your liquid intake. You could be filling up on liquid calories. But with moderation, you can still lose weight if you keep track of the beverages you drink.
