I suspect the TV ratings for this year’s Grammy Awards will surpass the numbers the Golden Globes got earlier this week.
Not that they could get any worse…
Despite the threat of picket lines by striking Hollywood writers, the Grammy Awards will air as scheduled on February 10th. But, unlike with the Golden Globe Awards, A-list celebs are saying they will appear for the music industry’s biggest night.
Just yesterday Beyonce and the Foo Fighters announced that they will be performing at the annual music awards. Beyonce is nominated for record of the year and her rep says the “Bootylicious” singer has an “incredible performance” planned, which should blow away viewers on Grammy night.
Meanwhile, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters (the group is nominated for album and record of the year), said he and his band are still planning on participating in the second installment of My Grammy Moment, a competition on YouTube in which amateur musicians compete to perform with the Foo Fighters during the live show.
“We’re participating in My Grammy Moment because it creates opportunities…to write, compose, play and study music – skills that absolutely need to be passed on to generations to come,” said Grohl.
Members of the Writers Guild of America have vowed to picket the Grammys and implored Screen Actors Guild members to boycott the show as well. That includes singers and musicians such as Justin Timberlake and Beyonce who are also actors and members of SAG.
DREW FOOTS A BIG BILL
Speaking of striking writers… Drew Carey is making sure the WGA picketers are not starving while they are on strike.
According to news reports, the comedian turned TV game show host is providing striking writers with free meals at Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank.
Carey reportedly has been picking up the tab for any writer who shows the wait staff a WGA card. Reports say the fast food loving host of “The Price is Right” has shelled out more than $10,000 paying for free burgers and fries since the stike began.
LINDSAY DOES TIME IN A MORGUE
Forget about her time in jail and rehab, Lindsay Lohan is about to spend time in a place where no one goes for a good time.
The 21-year-old actress will soon be working at a morgue as part of her punishment for misdemeanor drunken driving, according to news reports.
Per Lohan’s attorney, the former jailbird will spend two four-hour days at a local morgue as part of a court-ordered program to show drivers the real-life consequences of drinking and driving. Lohan is also being mandated to spend two days working in a hospital emergency room.
The punishment to work with dead people comes after Lohan was arrested twice last year on DUI charges and pleaded guilty in August to misdemeanor drunken driving and drug charges.
