Finding The Bed and Making It: Bedroom Tips

bedroom clutterThe bedroom is often the last room in the house to be cleaned, especially when guests are coming. Under the bed is the catchall hider of things that have no home. Above, it is the receiver for coats, books, magazines and anything or anyone lying in or near hallway closets and such. Here are some easy tips about how to keep the bedroom looking its best, whether company is coming or no. Read on.

Making The Bed
If you get into the habit of making your bed as soon as you get out of it, it will become second nature for you to do so. Of course, refrain from this course of action if a spouse or significant other is still sleeping in the bed, as in this case, misery does not like company.

Bedside Clutter Buildup
Suspend a shoe bag with many pockets behind and just above the bedside table. It will accommodate small books, reading glasses, pill bottles, tissues and even a portable phone. (Refrain from trying to fit small children into the pockets as they simply won’t fit!)

Under The Bed
Under the bed is an effective storage place because it’s out of the way and as the old saying goes, out of sight is often out of mind. It is the perfect spot for seasonal clothing. Fold them well and place them in several clear plastic storage boxes under the bed. That way, you can see immediately what is in them and most beds are high enough to store boxes under them.

Steamer Trunks
Situated at the base of your bed, an old steamer trunk is ideal for storing linen and seasonal clothing. It can also be attractive and add to your bedroom decor. In a pinch, it can also serve as a seat either to tie your shoelaces or ponder the rising and setting of the sun.

Closet Tips
One way to prevent overcrowding of garments in your closet is to gradually replace many of your patterned clothes with black and solid colored clothes. (Keep some for old time’s sake, but make solid colors the majority). Black in particular is very versatile and can easily be brightened with patterned accessories such as scarves, belts etc. Also, go through your things. If you haven’t worn a garment in over a year, get rid of it because the chances are you won’t.
