I have always had a love for East Indian culture. It’s kind of embarrassing to admit but when I was a kid, I used to take pictures of East Indian people. My parents were so embarrassed one time on a trip to the zoo because I kept following this family around, snapping photographs of them.
When I was a teenager I received a pen-pal in my French class. It was a boy from Calcutta, India. That pen-pal relationship lasted several years, even into young adulthood. We not only exchanged letters but we talked on the phone a few times and he even sent me some neat trinkets.
My love for that culture has never died out. So when Bollywood came out, I was thrilled. In fact one of my ring tones on my cell phone is Bollywood music.
So you can only imagine my excitement when I heard about the latest fitness trend to hit, Bhangra aerobics. This is a Bollywood-style type of fitness routine. While it is popular in India, I can really see this making waves in America.
Bhangra aerobics combines the traditional dance of India with a very active cardiovascular workout. From what I understand it is now one of the top five fitness workout routines to hit the USA.
Now I love to dance. Some of my favorite shows are “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance?” But I have always been a bystander. I think I would like to do something about that. How much fun would working out be if you combined it with dancing?
Apparently there are fitness studies in New York, Los Angeles and some other cities that offer Bhangra aerobics. However I did a quick Google search and was thrilled to find it available on DVD through Amazon.com. I am placing my order today! So look forward to an upcoming review.
Meanwhile, do you combine dance with working out? I would love to hear about it.
