Big Apple On A Budget—Remember the “S” Word

Let’s face it; traveling to and staying in New York City is not cheap… unless you do so on a night most people are at home curled up on the couch catching up with the ladies on Wisteria Lane.

That’s right cost-conscious vacationers, thanks to a new citywide tourist promotion; the Big Apple’s famously pricey accommodations are giving a break to travelers who spend Sunday night in the heart of the Empire State.

The new “Sunday Stays” program is being offered at more than three dozen New York hotels. By spending Sunday night at participating properties you can save 20%-30% on your lodging bill.

For example, the newly renovated Jumeirah Essex House is currently offering 25% off its best available room rate on Sundays, an upgrade and free parking. The name may not sound familiar, but rest assured you won’t have to worry too much about unwanted sleeping mates at this historic hotel located near famed Central Park. The property just underwent a $90 million makeover and now includes such luxuries as ostrich-print headboards and red leather desk chairs. In addition, savvy international travelers will appreciate the fact that Jumeirah Essex House is now a sister property to ultra-upscale hotels in Dubai.

Other more familiar properties are slashing their prices as well. The two Ritz-Carltons located in the heart of the city are giving guests 20% off rates and throwing in a complimentary welcome cocktail to boot. The Dream New York is going one better by offering the rate reduction, a free tropical libation and taking 20% off a spa service. In addition, New York City’s five W hotels are taking 20% off their rates, and serving a free drink and breakfast.

Ordinarily, a program like this would only be offered for a limited time; however, according to promoters, the program is continuing indefinitely and the list of participating hotels is expected to expand.
