Billy Ray Cyrus Blames “Hannah Montana” for Destroying Family

So country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, father of Miley Cyrus has stated that “Hannah Montana” is responsible for the demise of his family. Come on…seriously? He is going to put all the blame on a television show that he himself was part of?

Does he really not think he played a role in this? Being a famous man he most certainly knew what he was in for and the potential that fame could do to his daughter.

Now that Miley has turned 18 she has begun to do the very things I always expected would happen. It is almost a given that child stars will take the wrong path. The right path is very narrow and it gets narrower still when they are surrounded by all the fame and fortune.

So ole Billy says that if he could, he would take it all back in a second. He would have never allowed his daughter to play Hannah Montana. I know as parents we all live with regrets but there are some things that are completely in the realm of our control.

So how has the family been destroyed by Hannah Montana? It caused Billy and his wife Tish to get divorced. It has led Miley to engage in some dangerous activities. It has led to loss and regrets. Hmmm…I’m not really so sure this can all be placed on the shoulders of a television show.

One of the key things that Billy said however, is a clear warning to all parents of teenagers. He said he wished that he had disciplined her more instead of trying to be her friend. Parents cannot be their teenager’s friend. That is a role we are not meant to fill. It will come back and bite you.

It is very sad to see this situation unfold as it has but it also serves as a great lesson to parents. It is never too late to make changes that you know are necessary. But we have to be willing to step up and take responsibility.
