When planning your kindergarteners birthday party, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First of all, assume that the 50/50 rule does not apply. The reason is that kindergarteners are just starting out in school. Many of the students haven’t been in school before, and their parents are eager for them to make friends. So don’t make the mistake of inviting the whole class if you aren’t prepared for the whole class to come—because they will all come.
Because of this, I’ve created a list of hints I hope will help you make your kindergartener’s birthday party a success—for both of you.
1.Do invite as many kids as possible – especially if it’s the beginning of the school year, you’ll want to give your child the chance to make as many friends as possible. Birthday parties are a great way to break the ice.
2.Don’t plan a destination party if you’re not prepared to spend the money for a large turn-out – this one comes from personal experience. Sure, a Chuck E. Cheese party may sound like a great idea—but if the whole class shows up, can you afford it?
3.Backyard parties are a great idea for this age – Children at this age love games. They’re still entertained by “small” things and fun options abound! Consider an egg toss or a three-legged race. And don’t forget to give small prizes if you can afford it. They don’t have to be expensive at all, but kids at this age love prizes and rewards.
4.Consider a smaller party – if your child is shy perhaps a smaller party is a good idea. Why not invite a few friends over and have a “make your own pizza” party? It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’ll keep the kids entertained.
Whatever you decide for your kindergartener’s birthday, remember to keep it simple. Have a few activities planned then let the kids play. After all, that’s what they do best.
