Blackout

Last night we had a blackout. I woke to find the overhead fan and the clock next to the bed off and the room in complete darkness with no light coming in from the street light outside. Blackout, I thought and wondered how long it would go on for. This was at 3.30am.

My husband said the electricity had been off since midnight. I started to think of the fridge and freezer filled with food and hoped the electricity would not be off too long. Since there was nothing I could do about it, instead of worrying about food spoiling etc, I went back to sleep.

I was woken a short time later by my own voice on the answering machine as it switched back on. The clock next to the bed was flashing, as it always does till it is re-set after a blackout, the fan whirred overhead and the street lights outside were back on. Order was restored.

Too often as Christians, we experience a blackout. It happens when we are pre-occupied with other things that take over our lives and take priority. We become so busy or pre-occupied don’t take time to pray or read God’s Word. Yes, we are still connected to the power source, but the effects are not being seen in our lives because there is a glitch in the system. By not reading God’s Word and taking time to be with Him, we are short-cutting the power.

How can we expect to see results in our lives and prayers answered, if we don’t take the time to pray? How can we expect to know what God requires of us if we don’t read God’s words with an open and understanding heart? How can we expect to be grow stronger and mature as Christians, if we don’t regularly meet together with other believers to encourage and strengthen each other in our Christian walk?

Will you make a commitment this week to reconnect to the power source- Jesus and then see the difference He makes in your life and of those you are in contact with? I’d love to hear the results.
