Jonas Brothers’ Plan to Ring in 2009 and Fran Drescher vs. Caroline Kennedy

Those hip, hot and happening brothers, who make wearing a purity ring oh-so cool, will be rocking in 2009 from Times Square.

ABC just announced that the Jonas Brothers will be joining Ryan Seacrest and a slew of other stars on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” Taylor Swift and Lionel Richie will join the mega-hot singing siblings live from New York while Fergie will host segments of the show originating from Hollywood. Joining the duchess in Tinseltown will be Natasha Bedingfield, Fall Out Boy, Jesse McCartney, Ne-Yo, Pussycat Dolls, Solange and Robin Thicke.

ABC execs also announced that singer Kellie Pickler will handle live reports from the chaotic street-level scene in the heart of Times Square on the last day of the year. The annual tradition kicks off Wednesday, December 31st, at 10 p.m. ET.

No word on how much ABC plans to shell out to get the Jonas Brothers to show on New Year’s Eve; however, we now know how much money the sibling sensations raised for a good cause.

According to new reports, brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick raised $450,000 in an online charity auction by charityfolks.com, which arranged VIP tickets and meet-and-greets in exchange for donations to the band’s Change for the Children Foundation.

Billy Joel came in second on the Charity Folks list with $400,000 earned from a private New York concert. Bruce Springsteen came in third with $300,000, followed by Morgan Freeman, Howard Stern sidekick Robin Quivers and the cast of “The Sopranos.”

FRAN DRESCHER VS. CAROLINE KENNEDY

By now you’ve heard the news that former first daughter Caroline Kennedy is interested in filling the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton (who is leaving to become Barack Obama’s Secretary of State).

But today comes word that the former star of “The Nanny,” Fran Drescher, wants the same job. The 51-year-old actress (with the laugh that rivals Chinese water torture) told New York Magazine that she is qualified for the political job, as well as “an authentic and honest person.”

People of New York… did you ever think you’d see the day?
