Kitchen Craft: Slime

Looking for some fun in the kitchen with your kids? Make a batch of ooey-gooey slime. It’s well worth the effort and so much fun to play with, you’ll be competing with the kids for a turn.

This is pretty amazing stuff. Blubbery, rubbery and slimy, but non-stick (but don’t test it out on the cat or anything). It’s safe, but parental supervision is required.

Slime

You will need:

Two large bowls

Two spoons

Warm water

1 cup white glue

Food coloring

4 teaspoons Borax (a cleanser available in grocery and discount stores)

There are two formulas you will need to make to get your slime. We’ll call them Formula One and Formula Two.

1. For Formula One, combine 3/4 cup warm water, 1 cup white glue and a few drops of food coloring. Go easy on the food coloring. If you use too much it could come off on your hands or other surfaces. Mix these ingredients up in one bowl with a spoon.

2. For Formula Two, use the second bowl and spoon. Mix together 1 1/3 cups warm water and 4 teaspoons of Borax. Stir until the Borax is completely dissolved.

3. Once you’ve got your two formulas mixed, you are ready to make the slime. Pour Formula One (the glue mixture) into Formula Two (the Borax mixture). DO NOT STIR.

4. Let the concoction sit for one minute. Then, you can lift the slime out of the water. I don’t need to tell you what to do with it–it’s just rubbery, blubbery fun!

To store the slime, seal it in an airtight plastic bag. If you leave it out in the air for too long, it will start to dry out.
