Ringing in the New Year at a Hotel

Where do you typically celebrate New Year’s Eve? On your couch? A friend’s house? Or, in the middle of Times Square?

A new study shows that more and more Americans are trading in their fuzzy slippers and hot chocolate for a New Year’s Eve night out… at a hotel. And the city where the most New Year’s revelers hit hotels is none other than Las Vegas.

This year Sin City is hosting a slew of celebrity studded parties where common folks can bid farewell to 2007. If you plan to make the trip you might want to leave now because the parties in Vegas are starting early. Saturday night is the grand opening of the CatHouse restaurant and lounge at the Luxor. Former “O.C.” star Mischa Barton is reportedly still due to host the big shindig despite her recent DUI arrest. (I’m sure she’ll know how to get that party started.)

Barton is also scheduled to join former DUI poster child Paris Hilton and her sister Nicky at the New Year’s Eve countdown at LAX nightclub, which is also located at the Luxor. Though, unless you are a high roller don’t expect to rub elbows with the blonde party girls. The hotel keeps their party “hosts” behind velvet ropes in a high security VIP area.

If you are looking to enjoy live music while you usher in 2008 head over to the New Year’s Eve party at Prive in Vegas’ Planet Hollywood. That’s where award-winning singer Avril Lavigne will be performing. Meanwhile, the former Mr. Britney Spears (a.k.a. Kevin Federline) has been tapped to host a party at Tangerine at Treasure Island. (He’s got to make an income somehow now that his alimony has been cut off.) Meanwhile, Pamela Anderson is said to be hosting a “Welcome to 2008” blowout at Pure at Caesars Palace.

If the idea of spending New Year’s Eve at any of the aforementioned hotels with any of the aforementioned celebs (and celeb wannabes) sends shivers down your spine you might consider a family-friendly package deal being offered by the Ritz-Carlton chain.

The ultra-luxe resort is offering a new “Pillow Games” package for families who like to have fun the old fashion way-—engaging in a feather battle.

For $60 you can order a “Family Pillow Fight” package, which includes a bag of 30 small pillows and a CD with pillow-fight appropriate music (“Hit Me With Your Best Shot…”).

Sounds fun, but who’s libel if one of the pillows takes out a lamp?
