My name is Traci and I am a blog-aholic. I blog about my children, I blog about my pastimes, I blog about my fears, my hopes, my businesses, my vents and my aspirations.
My blogging addiction took root on a quiet Sunday afternoon when I was sorting through photographs to send to my children’s grandparents. As I started to write short little blurbs on the back of the photos, I decided that there had to be an easier way. I asked some fellow at-home moms for suggestions on a message board forum and someone directed me to Blogger.com. I created my first blog/journal where I uploaded pictures of my children and told personal stories about them. Their long-distance grandparents were thrilled, and I was hooked. Seven personal blogs, and one paid blogging position later, I have made blogging my home-based business.
Even if you are not ready to take the leap into blogging on a “full-time” basis, you can create a blog to promote your current business. For example, my cousin and her husband own a home-based decorative painting business where they paint children’s murals and detailed artwork on people’s walls. When my cousin showed me photographs of their work, but said that they did not have a web site yet, I suggested a blog.
The great thing about blogs is that they are easy to create, they are current, and you can showcase your business in a variety of ways. My cousin, for example, can take photographs of her current murals and post them on the web for future customers to view. You don’t need to have any experience whatsoever in web site design to create a blog, yet I personally believe that blogs can be just as effective as a typical business site in terms of getting your message out and growing your customer base.
If you have an existing home-based business (either offline or online) you can increase your contacts dramatically by developing a blog. While I am a blogger, I am by no means a blogging expert. Thankfully, there are numerous authors on this site that have more experience than I do so I will refer you some of their articles on the below. In the meantime, I would encourage you to tell us (and our readers) your personal experiences with blogging in the comments section.
