Bloody Bites for Your Halloween Buffet

Oh, the wonders of ketchup. The tangy condiment can go a long way to creep out guests at a Halloween party (though, not to the point where mini ghosts and goblins won’t happily gobble up gory-looking goodies).

The trick to these Halloween treats is to make them as tasty as they are gruesome to look at. You can start off with some Bloody Baked Potatoes (courtesy of the Food Network) and then serve up a slimy snake sandwich.

Both make boo-tiful additions to your Halloween buffet.

BLOODY BAKED POTATOES

Ingredients:

4 baking potatoes

3 balls fresh mozzarella, diced

2 tablespoons ketchup, plus more to decorate

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Randomly prick the potatoes with a fork and put them into the oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on their size.

Take the potatoes out of the oven and let them cool a little before slicing them.

Once the potatoes are cool carefully slice each one in half and scoop out the cooked innards, reserving the skins.

Put the diced mozzarella into a bowl with the potato innards and add 2 tablespoons of ketchup. Mix with a fork and then spoon the filling back into the potato skins.

Sit the loaded potato skins on a lined baking sheet, and drizzle with more ketchup.

Place the potatoes back in the oven to cook for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

SLIMY SNAKE SANDWICH

Ingredients:

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup jelly, any flavor

1 loaf of French or Italian bread, sliced

Red peppers

Black olive

Green olive

1/4 cup marshmallow creme

Directions:

Using a small amount of peanut butter, attach the first two inches (about 3 slices) of bread together to make the snake head.

Cut bell pepper into a 2-inch long tongue.

Cut a narrow horizontal slice in the heel of the bread and insert tongue.

Cut black olive in half lengthwise; attach with peanut butter to head to create eyes. Attach small pieces of the green olive with peanut butter for nostrils.

Combine remaining peanut butter, jelly and marshmallow creme. Spread on half of the bread slices; top with remaining bread slices.

Place snake head on a large serving tray. Stand up sandwiches in wavy pattern behind the head to resemble a slithering snake.
