Nowhere in the home does it show more that everything has a place and should be in it than the kitchen. Even in large kitchens, somehow the clutter becomes an eyesore of tremendous dimensions. How can you stop it from taking over your house and invading your pantry? Read now for some ways to commit cluttercide without getting caught or going to jail.
Placemat Storage
Save drawer space by clamping place mats and folded tablecloths in sets with pants hangers. Store them inside your pantry or cupboard door.
Recipe Books and Records
A perfect place for recipe books could be the wasted space that is usually found between the top of your kitchen counter and the bottom of your cupboards. Why not attach a shelf there?
Buy an old computer, paint it to match your kitchen décor and set it up in an available corner of your counter (ha!). Take all those recipes clipped from magazines and such and transfer them onto the computer. In this manner, you can even read the recipe right off the screen while you are cooking.
Appliance Storage
A general rule of thumb says that if you can see your appliances it is more likely that you will use them. Dedicate a set of shelves to store your appliances. Then it will be easy or you to monitor which ones you use frequently and which ones you need to pass off to your unwitting friends and relatives. (Avoid neighbors. They live too close for complaining purposes.)
Herb Storage
Herbs need to be stored away from heat and light. How about a drawer near the stove? Lay them flat so labels can be easily read. You are probably wondering what you should now do with all the stuff that was in the drawer, right? (I will let you know what to do about that tomorrow after I have had a chance to think about it.)
Counter and Cupboard Space Savers
When preparing a large meal and in need of more counter space, place a cutting board on top of an open drawer. To maximize space in your glassware cupboard, arrange alternate glasses upside down.
