Can he fix it? Yes, he can!
“Bob the Builder” is a wildly popular children’s television show. First appearing on Nickelodeon, and now a regular on PBS, “Bob” is a claymation creation about a building yard and the owner (who would be Bob) his helper, Wendy, and all the machines they use every day. Each of these machines is alive and has a personality all their own.
Scoop is a yellow digger truck with a scoop on the front. He’s the first truck Bob ever bought back in the day, and they’ve constructed a lot together over the years. Scoop is sort of the leader of all the machines.
Dizzy is the cement mixer, and she loves rock and roll music. You can often find her with a pair of headphones on.
Rolly is a steamroller and he’s also a little bit accident prone. He tends to roll over things he wasn’t supposed to flatten.
Muck is bright red and he’s excellent at hauling. If you need a load of scraps taken off to the dump, Muck is the one you call on.
Lofty is a truck with a crane attachment, and he’s a bit nervous all the time. He’s never really sure he can do the job properly.
Other characters include Pilchard the Cat, Scrufty the Dog, Farmer Pickles, his rascally scarecrow Spud, and Travis, his tractor.
Each episode features a building task to be performed, the challenges that arrive (often human frailty) and the way that the team works together to solve the problem. The only annoying thing about the show is the way some of the characters are voiced – that can get on your nerves pretty quickly.
All in all, though, this is a big favorite at my house. My son especially loves it – he has plans to become a builder on his own someday.
Tristi’s Score: 4 for Education, 6 for Entertainment, and the Parent Annoyance Factor is 3.
