Have you heard of a chemical called BPA? It is also known as Bisphenol A. You may have heard about this chemical being found in baby bottles and parents now are choosing bottles without this chemical in it. The bottles with BPA are cheaper but they do come with a price. BPA has been linked to cancer. It was originally created as a synthetic hormone and now we are using it in bottles! Hello many forms of cancer including breast cancer feed off of hormones.
Would you be surprised that according to the Center for Disease Control report that 95% of Americans have a level of BPA in their blood? That would be a great number if it was not for the fact that BPA is a chemical that is linked to prostate and breast cancer, attention deficit, fertility issues, early onset puberty, diabetes, birth defects and so many more diseases and disorders.
Ok so you are thinking well I am going to change my baby bottles so phew I am safe. That is so not true. BPA is also found in basically anything with plastic your plastic water bottles, reusable food containers and even plastic sporting equipment.
This week the FDA came out with warnings about BPA being found in canned goods such as canned soups and vegetables. The BPA is used to line the cans to protect the metal from getting in your system but instead we are getting chemicals in our foods and drinks.
A few years ago I attended a young survivors conference about breast cancer and I learned then about BPA in canned veggies. When I came home from that conference I got rid of all the canned veggies in our home and we have not bought any since. This week’s report is like a HEY you dope did you not think about the other metal cans in your cabinet moment. I have at least 20 cans of soup in our cabinet. Since I tried reducing my calories I bought a bunch of coups to eat for lunch you know the ones with 100 calories or less per serving.
Now I am going to have get rid of all my soups and start making my own soups and keep it in BPA free plastic wear. I really do not want to hurt the soup industry but come on can we not make foods safe for people!
