For the past few weeks, rumors have been swirling about a possible addition to one of the country’s most good looking families. Two weeks ago TV’s “Entertainment Tonight” reported that Angelina Jolie was in the process of adopting another child, though reporters could not confirm what country the child was currently living in.
Today, various news agencies have confirmed that the actress has officially filed to adopt a Vietnamese child. And, contrary to tabloid reports, it was a representative from the U.S. adoption agency hired by Jolie who filed the papers at Vietnam’s International Adoption Agency, and not the actress herself (though, reporters did confirm that Jolie applied to adopt as a “single parent”).
The new baby will join Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt. He or she will also be welcomed by Jolie and Pitt’s three other children: 5-year-old son Maddox, adopted from Cambodia; 2-year-old daughter Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia; and biological daughter, Shiloh, who turns one in May.
The decision to adopt a child from Vietnam came as no surprise to Jolie watchers. You’ll recall that the entire Jolie-Pitt clan spent Thanksgiving in Vietnam. (Remember those infamous shots of Pitt and Jolie cruising around the former Saigon on a motorcycle?) Jolie revisited the country in January for a meeting about the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Project, the charity she started to aid her son’s native country of Cambodia.
As for adding to the family… it has never been a secret that the actors wanted more children. Last December Jolie told reporters she wanted “to add many more children and many more obstacles and many more things” to her life. Meanwhile, Pitt was quoted in a January issue of PEOPLE magazine as being “eager” to expand his family. “Always, of course,” he said. “We’ll let you know when we get there.”
Okay, one rumor down… one to go. Word on the street is that Jolie has asked to adopt a boy so Maddox could have a brother.
