Brad and Angelina’s Vietnamese Thanksgiving

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie must not like turkey and stuffing. Then again, they are self-professed “non-traditionalists” so I suppose none of us should be surprised that this year the couple and their children traded in the traditional American Thanksgiving Day meal for a lavish Vietnamese spread in Ho Chi Minh City.

Or, maybe not following tradition is in fact their way of keeping with their own traditions. You’ll remember last year Brangelina spent their first Thanksgiving holiday together aiding earthquake victims in Pakistan last year. So, hey, why not make going global a tradition this year, too.

You may have seen the countless pictures snapped of the pair cruising around the city, formerly known as Saigon, on a motorcycle with Pitt driving and Jolie clinging to him perched on the back (just for the record neither one was photographed wearing a helmet).

Local newspapers are reporting that the motorcycle ride was part of a self-guided Thanksgiving Day tour of the Vietnamese city, which ended with a shared meal at a popular local restaurant converted from an old temple.

Asked by a local newspaper how he felt about traveling the busy streets, Pitt replied, “There was no problem,” adding, “We had a wonderful day in Vietnam.”

No surprise–the paparazzi trailed the cycling duo for most of their tour. Pictures of the movie star couple appeared Friday in Vietnamese newspapers-–but the locals apparently weren’t star struck.

A construction worker in Hanoi told Reuters: “I saw the pictures in the newspaper but still have no idea why the fuss about these Westerners. But now maybe I will watch their movies to know why.”

Pitt and Jolie, made the trip to Ho Chi Minh City from India where Jolie is currently filming the movie “A Mighty Heart.” The celebrity couple arrived just days after another celebrity couple–President Bush and his wife Laura–visited the area earlier in the week.
The same day the Bush’s left Vietnam, Jolie made an unannounced visit to son Maddox’s birth country, Cambodia, where she pledged to aid conservation efforts.

Maybe the Brad and Angie will save the turkey for Christmas.
