2) This is how my baby should be:
Amazing how quickly pregnancy can “turn around.” Just this week my wife and I visited the midwives for a 34 1/2 week checkup. Our son had been happily in the correct position for months and we were quite surprised to find out that he had, at this late stage, moved into a less than desirable position for birth: Breech.
You see, in an effort to avoid many of the pains associated with childbirth we decided to avoid hospitals all together. There is a high rate of c-sections in our town and my wife was not interested in being cut open or being given injections in the spine. After speaking with various women, and doing a good deal of research, we reasoned that women have been giving birth for a long time before men in blue masks operated machines surrounded by swarms of women in white. Midwives would be the answer for us.
And, let me tell you, our midwives have been great. It’s such a calming experience to avoid the mistaken idea that pregnancy is something similar to a disease. It’s a reassuring and empowering environment for my wife who is reassured that she can do this because she is strong rather than succumbing to a doctor’s orders or a “birthing” doctor’s expertise.
The reason our little Breech Baby Boy is such a problem is because our midwives are uncomfortable delivering a breech baby for a first time mom. Since we are first time parents we would have to fight off the needles, the C-Sections, and the doctor who wants to get home for dinner if this baby doesn’t turn himself around. Everything we’ve taken great lengths to avoid (a hospital) could become the only option if our son doesn’t get his head where it needs to be in the next couple of weeks.
So, if you’ve had an experience with a breech baby turning around just in time let us know in the comments. My wife is very concerned about the possibility of having a hospital birth instead of a midwife birth as we planned. Your well wishing, prayers, and comments are all appreciated.
