She’s baaaaack!
The rumors are true… Shannen Doherty is returning to the zip code that made her infamous.
Show producers just announced that the actress, who played the twin sister to Jason Priestley’s character Brandon Walsh for four seasons on the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” will return as Brenda Walsh when the CW’s new spinoff “90210” debuts in September.
Doherty’s rep told reporters that the actress is “looking forward” to returning to her roots.
Doherty’s character Brenda will reportedly be a visiting drama teacher who directs a musical at West Beverly High School.
“High School Musical” West Beverly style?
Doherty will be reuniting with other original cast members including Jennie Garth, who will be reprising her role as Kelly Taylor (Kelly will reportedly be returning as a counselor at West Beverly) and Tori Spelling, who is resurrecting her character Donna Martin.
Producers say while Doherty and Garth’s characters will appear in the series premiere Spelling’s character will not. According to Spelling, she was unable to appear in the pilot of the spinoff because she was too busy giving birth to her new daughter.
Spelling will appear in a later episode and interact with Doherty and Garth’s characters. According to show producers, all three actresses will have major storylines and appear in multiple episodes.
And speaking of spinoffs, one of NBC’s most popular shows is expanding.
Reports say a spinoff of “The Office” is in the works and Amy Poehler is planning to star in it.
The actress confirmed to reporters late last week that she is planning to join the new show, paving the way for her eventual exit from “Saturday Night Live” and giving her a chance to showcase her talents on primetime.
The 36-year-old actress has been a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” since 2001 and currently serves as a co-anchor on the show’s popular “Weekend Update.”
Poehler, who’s married to actor Will Arnett, is expecting the couple’s first child this October.
