When we walked into the house with our sons for the first time it seemed a bit surreal. When we were getting the boys room ready we did not know if we were getting boys or girls or how old they would be. We decorated the room with wall high brightly colored jungle animals painted on a wall and half. We did this ourselves and we were very proud of how good it looked we just hoped the boys would like it.
When they walked into the room there was a toddler bed for the 3 year old and a crib for the 14 month old. Their eyes got big when they saw the room and all the toys. Yep for the last year we have been buying toys that would work for either gender or multiple age groups. There were more toys than any child could ever play with, we may have gone a bit overboard on the toys. I cannot use their real names because we do not want the biological mom to know where we live but I hate referring to them by their ages so let me give them new names for these blogs, the three year old will be Steve and the 14 month let’s call him George.
Steve kept asking if all these toys were his. I never really gave it thought before that very moment that these may have been his very first toys that was his. If you read my previous entries about his foster home then you will understand this. He was the sweetest little boy, he came running over and hugged us and said thank you. He then went over and started bringing out all these toys for George to play with. It was so great seeing them playing together. We sat there in their room just playing for hours.
We did not have the extended family over yet, we did not want to overwhelm them. My mother was living with us but that was all the family we let meet our sons that day. After a few hours playing we loaded up the car and went to Wal-Mart for a family picture even today we look at that picture of the day that we became a family.
