There are simple ways to bring the outdoors in and give any space in your home some natural charm. The best part is using natural elements can also be a cost effective way to add some interesting effects to your home. I’m not talking about “naturals” that you find in home interior shops; I’m talking about literally bringing the outdoors in with stuff you find outside.
Why pay for a bunch of twigs when you can gather your own? Gather them, clean them up, and bundle them together with a pretty ribbon or place them in a firewood basket. Use them to decorate picture frames, door panels, drawer fronts, or to create your own unique artwork.
Instead of putting another log on the fire, why not put a log on the table? A small piece of branch can be cleaned up and brought inside to use as a decorative element. You can pick up an attachment for your drill that will cut holes just the right size for tea candles or votives. Cut holes down the length of the log for a charming rustic candleholder. This idea is perfect for a coffee table or as a quaint hearth or mantel accessory for your fireplace.
Lots of wildflowers and even “weeds” also make interesting additions. Fill a vase with a pretty variety of wildflowers instead of buying fresh cut flowers. Hang weeds and grasses upside down to dry them and then arrange in attractive containers.
Wood chips look nice in planters and offer a change from moss or other fillers. Stones and rocks can also add some texture when cleaned and placed in a shallow, clear glass bowl.
Use your imagination and use all the great things you can find in your yard, in the woods, or as your taking a stroll.
