Why finish high school and pursue a college degree when you can rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars selling your baby’s photos to a national magazine?
That’s the question I was left wondering after discovering that Sarah Palin’s 18-year-old daughter Bristol just made a cool $300,000 by selling shots of her newborn son to PEOPLE magazine.
According to reports, the teenage daughter of former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, is now sitting pretty on top of a healthy nest egg. The new mom, who gave birth last week to a healthy 7 lb., 7 oz., baby boy in Palmer, Alaska, just out earned the entire student body of her former high school by signing on the dotted line.
Bristol and her teenage boyfriend Levi Johnston reportedly agreed to sell photos of 10-day-old Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston to PEOPLE in order to pad their checking account. As it stands now Bristol is completing her high-school diploma through correspondence courses while Johnston is working as an apprentice electrician.
Still no word on whether the two plan to marry anytime soon. However, what is known is that neither of the teens counted on raking in as much dough as they did when bidding for Tripp’s baby pics first began.
Word has it that bidding for the photos of Sarah Palin’s first grandchild began at a mere $100,000. However, thanks in large part to the recent arrest of Tripp’s other granny, Sherry Johnston, on drug related charges, the price tag for the photos more than doubled.
Now that we know how much Bristol and her baby’s daddy scored for shots of their newborn the world can now take stabs at how the money will be spent. The teens could place a chunk of it in a savings account to pay for Tripp’s college education. Though, considering his parents haven’t finished high school yet, perhaps some of the cash will go towards paying for their education first.
Regardless of where the funds go, I’m pretty sure that this PEOPLE magazine spread won’t be the last of its kind for the teen parents and their famous offspring.
