Britney and K-Fed’s Amicable Divorce?

Am I the only one who gets whiplash following this couple? (I know I am not the only one who watches them in much the same way as one would a train wreck.) So, here’s the latest. Apparently, miracles do happen. Word has it that Britney Spears and Kevin Federline reached a divorce settlement.

According to PEOPLE magazine, World War III has been avoided as both parties have “signed a global settlement on all issues of their marriage and the custody of the children.”

The magazine goes on to say that the deal came about during a five-hour meeting in the Los Angeles high-rise offices of Spears’s attorney. Spears and Federline, along with their respective attorneys were present for the meeting and were able to hammer out a deal that was agreed upon by both Brit and K-Fed.

The details of the agreement were not made public and a judge has yet to make the deal official, but sources close to the couple told reporters that the pair wanted to spare their two young sons, 18-month-old Sean Preston and 6 month-old Jayden James, from a bitter custody battle.

This deal comes on the heels of Spears’s release from a Malibu rehabilitation facility on March 20th and four months after she filed for divorce from Federline citing irreconcilable differences.

I am curious to see what the agreement entails, after all, so much has been made of Federline being a gold digger and the fact that in a temporary agreement (pre-meltdown), Spears had custody of the boys with three days of visitation for K-Fed. Of course, that all changed when Spears spent 30 days in rehab. When that happened Federline took the boys and reportedly declined to return custody to Spears until he was “satisfied with her follow-through to treatment.”

The bottom line is that going into this divorce neither parent really presented a strong case for custody. Then throw in panty-less partying, head shaving, and chain smoking and you had to wonder if the kids would have been better off with their grandparents. I read somewhere that Federline wasn’t really interested in gaining full custody of his sons. Rather, he just wanted to see them whenever it fit into his schedule. According to US Weekly, a source close to Federline said he wanted Spears to maintain custody of the children as long as she was “stable.” Hmmm… Doesn’t sound like fighting words to me.

What do you think? Do you believe that Brit caved to Kev’s because of what has transpired in the last 45 days?
