The smoldering trainwreck that is Britney Spears just got doused with more fuel. She hasn’t exploded yet (and least not in public), but it should be just a matter of time given the latest twist in her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
According to court documents, Spears has temporarily lost visitation rights with sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1… again.
The court order reads: “[Spears’s] visitation with the minor children is suspended pending [her] compliance with court orders.”
The ruling was ordered today following an emergency hearing that was requested by K-Fed’s attorney yesterday.
According to TMZ.com, Spears refused to provide contact information to the office in charge of administering her random drug tests. The pop diva’s non-compliance riled the judge who suspended her visitations with her sons.
Talk about taking two steps forward and three steps back…
You’ll recall Spears was stripped of physical custody last month, but later a judge amended his ruling and allowed Ms. Meltdown to see her sons roughly every other day. Then, shortly after that ruling Spears caught another break when a judge granted her one overnight visit per week with her kids.
Now she’s back down to no visits… at least for the time being. Both Spears and Federline are required to attend another scheduled hearing on October 26th when the pop princess may be able to gain some time with her kids back.
And here I thought Spears recent reconciliation with her mom and sister would help her case–—or at least her mindset. Alas, it appears Spears is beyond the point of help (or at least beyond the point that she recognizes she needs help, but that may have happened a long time ago).
Maybe Whoopi Goldberg was on to something. When Spears was initially stripped of custody “The View” co-host suggested that perhaps the Britney bashers had it all wrong. That, maybe, the young mother simply couldn’t hack it and was secretly relieved that the judge had given additional physical custody to her ex. Doing so allowed her to continue on with life as a swinging single void of children and therefore any parental responsibilities.
When I first heard Goldberg’s remarks I didn’t think much of them. After all, what mother wouldn’t give their right arm (let alone show up for court mandated drug screenings and, uh, let’s see… drive with an actual valid license) to be with her children?
But now, after hearing about this latest set back for Brit-Brit I can only come to one conclusion: Selfish is as selfish does. If Spears regains and retains custody of those boys for more than a month straight it will be nothing less than a miracle.
