BRITNEY’S NEW GIG
In what may be the worst kept secret in Hollywood, MTV has confirmed that Britney Spears has been recruited to open the network’s Video Music Awards this Sunday in Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old train wreck will try to get her life back on track by performing “Gimme More” – the first single from her upcoming album.
MTV execs claim they wooed Spears because they wanted to start the show in “a very big and dramatic way, and she’s the one to do that.”
Despite her recent string of major setbacks in the parenting department, award producers say the former Mousekeeter has proven herself during past VMAs. You’ll recall Spears performed “I’m A Slave 4 U” with a 7-foot albino python around her neck in 2001. Then, two years later she made headlines around the world when she and Madonna expressed their “mutual admiration” for each other via a kiss during the opening act.
There’s no telling what the mommy of two will be doing to stir up controversy on stage during this year’s show. However, there have been numerous reports that Spears has been consulting with illusionist Criss Angel on some moves for her act.
The former Mrs. Fed-Ex will be debuting her new album in November—brace yourselves.
GEORGE CLOONEY’S NEW GAL
Don’t let the public displays of affection fool you. George Clooney fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The hunky actor is denying reports that he is set to walk down the aisle with his new love Sarah Larson.
“Don’t say weddings around me,” Clooney told reporters at the Deauville Film Festival last night. “No weddings!”
The 28-year-old onetime “Fear Factor” winner (she’s now a cocktail waitress at Las Vegas’s Moon nightclub in the Palms Casino Resort) and the former “ER” star have reportedly been an item since June.
The 46-year-old actor is calling Larson his “girlfriend” so I guess he’s officially off the market for now. According to reports, the new couple has been inseparable since they arrived in France for the film festival earlier this month. The two have been seen dining with Clooney pal Matt Damon and his wife Luciana—-who incidentally was also working as a waitress prior to marrying the “Bourne Ultimatum” star.
