Born on May 31, 1965, Brooke Christa Shields added Camille to her name at her Communion when she was ten years of age. She began her career in a television commercial for Ivory soap, and at the age of 12, starred as a child prostitute in Pretty Baby” (1978). “The Blue Lagoon” followed in 1980 and during the filming, she had to have her hair glued to her breasts to insure that nothing would show. She became the spokesperson for Calvin Klein jeans in the early 80s, and has never stopped working. She won The People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Young Performer” from 1981-1984, and in 1997, for her performance in “Suddenly Susan,” she was honored again for the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Female Performer.”
Brooke is the author of a book about post partum depression called “Down Came The Rain” and also holds a degree in French Literature from Princeton University. In 1997, she married tennis player, Andre Agassi, but the couple divorced two years later, much to her personal devastation. She had the first marriage annulled so that when she married for the second time in 2001 to writer-producer, Chris Henchy, it could be within the Catholic Church.
In a true twist of art imitating life, Brooke was stalked by a New Jersey accountant who was armed with a handgun for a period of more than three months (October 1999 to January of 2000). Seven years prior, she won critical acclaim for her portrayal of a real- life stalking victim, computer-engineer, Laura Black, whose story was told in the television docudrama, “I Can Make You Love Me” (1993).
Brooke is the mother of one child (a daughter named Rowan) and currently lives in the downtown area of New York City (near the scene of 9/11, which she claims makes her slightly defiant). She is still sought after for work in movies, television and on stage. Her star continues to shine brightly and may it do so for many years to come!
