Budget Beach Getaways

Sure, you can save a bundle by driving a small car to the coast and spending your entire winter vacation living out of tent that you’ve pitched on the beach.  However, there are a slew of other ways you can score a budget-friendly beach getaway without having to go to extremes.

Beach packages are readily available to a host of sunny destinations, including Hawaii, Mexico, California and the Caribbean.  The trick to saving more than a few pennies on these tropical getaways is to have social media platforms work for you.  By signing up for alerts from airlines, hotels and other travel-related services you can score deals that can translate into major savings.

Another tip is to choose destinations that cater to budget travelers.  For example, Thailand is well-known as a bargain Asian vacation destination.  Luxury properties often go for less than $200 per night, including beachfront bungalows that sleep up to four people.  Do the math and you’ll discover that you can easily afford to take the entire clan on a trip to Phuket, Koh Samui and Krabi Island for less than it would cost you to travel domestically.  You can also save a bundle by opting to dine on street food rather than forking over more cash at top resorts.  Thailand is home to dozens of food vendors who set up shop on the side of the road.  The food is cheap, fresh and delicious.

Malaysia is also revered for its affordable accommodations.  The country is a top pick for budget travelers as visitors can snag cheap rentals that are located right on the beach.  If you enjoy surfing, snorkeling or simply soaking up the sun, this Asian vacation destination is hard to beat.  In addition to the inexpensive accommodations, Malaysia also boasts cheap public transportation that’s efficient and comfortable.  If you plan on traveling to the area and want to stretch your dollar as far as it can go, consider booking a package deal.  You can find bungalow rentals that include meals, day trips, transportation, and access to equipment for water sports activities for a single low price.
