In this economy shopping for your home should be approached with caution. It is easy to spend quite a bit when you purchase things for you home. Aside from a buy nothing policy which isn’t very practical, especially when the roof leaks or your kitchen chair breaks, what can you do? I’ve found that even in a tough economy, there are stores out there that are very budget friendly. They will help you out without breaking a budget.
I’m not getting paid by any of these stores for recommending them (It would be nice if I were), so this is just my own opinion talking.
Ikea
That yellow and blue box is a wealth of low-cost furniture and accessories. We have a few pieces in our home and in spite of the fact that most of them are made of soft pine, they have held up well, thanks to the construction. My favorite pieces are the bookcases along with the baskets that can hold toys without making everything look like a playroom. A couch has also held up well with three kids, and crayon and marker marks came out from the removable cover in the wash.
Home Depot and Lowes
Both Home Depot and Lowes are great sources of everything you need for home improvement projects. Doing it yourself usually can save quite a bit of money. Beside all of the insulation, tools and practical purchases we have made, we have found things such as in stock fireplace doors to reduce our heating bills and were a third of the cost of fireplace doors that would have to be ordered from the specialty shop. We also found a lamp and decorations for our daughter’s room at half the cost of the kids furniture stores. Sometimes little things such as a coat of paint or a new accessory can really make a difference in a room without much of a cost.
