Budget Travel: More Affordable Family Fun

Who knew holding off on planning a summer vacation could pay off in the end? For all you parents who have wanted to take your kids on a summer trip, but simply couldn’t afford to do so because of record-breaking gas prices and mile-high airfares, you are in luck. The hotel industry is uniting to offer a helping hand to budget conscious families. The following lodgings are offering spectacular deals on accommodations for clans who want to make the most of the last days of summer.

Take a look:

COLORADO

Right now the Far View Lodge inside Mesa Verde National Park is running a “Family Value” package, which includes two nights’ accommodations, daily breakfast for the whole family, two ranger-led tours to the Cliff Palace and Balcony House ruins, a ride on the Durango and Silverton train, and complimentary dinner for kids 11 and under. Rates start at $265 per room per night, or $530 for the two-night stay. Note: Price is per room, based on two adults and two kids 11 and under. Add $10 per night for kids 12 to 18 and the deal ends on October 21, 2008.

For outdoorsy families headed to Beaver Creek, Colorado, you can take advantage of the Pines Lodge’s “Hike By Day, Raft By Night” package. It covers a three-night stay in a room with two double beds, a guided day hike on the Royal Elk trail, a picnic lunch, and a nighttime float trip on the Colorado River. Rates start at $333 per night, or $999 for the entire package, which represents a savings of 30%. The offer ends September 30, 2008.

SOUTH CAROLINA

Daufuskie Island Resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina is offering a Family Fun package from now through August 23, 2008. For just $375 per room per night you will receive a stay in a 600-square-foot suite, complete with two queen beds, a daybed, a fridge, and a microwave. In addition, you will get a $50 resort credit good toward a round of golf or a spa treatment, and a trip to the Camp Calibogue children’s recreation program for up to two children per night (a $30 per night value). At camp, kids will play outdoor games and partake in art and crafts while being monitored by adult camp staff members.
