One of the coolest things that our neighbors have is a little pool-side cabana. It is great for entertaining. The family and their guests can spend hours by the pool without any need to ever go inside the house. Not only does this add to the fun, but it keeps their house nice and tidy, free from dripping water.
A pool-side cabana can be large or small. It can act as a simple changing area, or a complete kitchen stocked with food, drinks and even a kitchen sink. You can also build a cabana that functions somewhere in between, such as a bar for cold drinks. Just figure out how you like to spend time by the pool and adapt your cabana accordingly.
The easiest and quickest way to build a pool-side cabana is by purchasing a storage shed. You can pick a design and size that will suit your needs from almost any home improvement store. Install it yourself or have the store arrange installment for you. Don’t forget local carpenters. In my area, we live not too far from an Amish community, and there are a lot of opportunities to buy a custom-built shed from local shops.
If you get started no, you should have your cabana all ready to go for the summer.
Some ideas to help customize your pool-side cabana include:
- A short bench outside for seating
- A divider to separate out different areas, such as a changing area and a kitchen
- An electrical line run out to the shed for a small refrigerator
- A laundry hamper to catch wet towels
- Shelves or bins for dry towels, bug spray and sunscreen
- A painted drop cloth to serve as a curtain for a changing area
- A door mirror
- Interior tract lighting or decorative lights for the evening
- Laminate countertops for durability, if you plan to install a sink
What are some of your ideas?
