Building a Facebook Fan Page Series: Part 2

Let’s continue to go through the basics of creating a Facebook fan page for your business. Once we get past the basics we will discuss promoting and growing it.

Basic Information

Once your fan page has 25 fans you can claim your username. If your page has fewer than 25 fans then your URL of your page is long and includes a lot numbers. It would not be an easy URL for fans to remember. As soon as you hit the first milestone and get 25 fans then claim your username. If your page is called Pink Hair Barrettes then your username will be www.facebook.com/pinkhairbarrettes.

The name of your page is set and cannot be changed once you reach 100 fans.

The rest of the information asked in this section will be the basics of your business. Just fill in the blanks as it applies to you. Make sure to add a valid email address and your website if applicable.

Make sure to do your best to fill in all the information asked. I have seen far too many business Facebook fan pages without this information filled in. Without the information a potential customer may never become an actual customer.

Profile Picture

The profile picture you chose should reflect your business. Save the personal pictures, cartoon pictures, funny pictures, and variety of rotating pictures for your personal Facebook profile. Your business profile picture should reflect your branding such as a logo or blog button. To get the most bang out of your profile picture upload a 200×500 image. That is the maximum Facebook will accept as a profile picture. It will provide you the space to show a few products or add important information. Keep in mind that the top portion of it will show up beside your business name as you comment on walls.
