In my last blog I talked about laying a foundation to your home-based business. This includes putting together a business plan that might include goals, what type of business you would like to run, what you hope to gain from it and other important issues to be considered.
The foundation is really the idea behind your business. The more prepared you are (the more ideas you have) before you actually begin the building process, the better. This way you are prepared for obstacles that may come in the way and you stand a better chance at making this thing successful.
Once you have come up with the foundation to what your home-based business will be, you want to lay the concrete. The concrete serves as a means of firming up your plan. You make final decisions on which direction you will go, what product or service you will offer.
For instance, in my previous blog I talked specifically about freelance writing work. I mentioned how there are so many areas to write in (resumes, proofreading, editing, technical, copywriting and the list goes on). Pouring the concrete for this line of work means deciding what type of area you will tackle.
When I considered the skills that were necessary and the opportunities that were available, I decided to jump into web content writing and blogging. No longer was I planning (laying the foundation), now I was starting to build (pouring the concrete). During this phase of building, you are finalizing details.
This will also mean gathering together any necessary tools you might need. For instance, in my line of work I need things like a computer, printer, ability to scan/fax, thesaurus, dictionary, paper, pens, and so on.
In my next blog we will look more closely at the actual building phase, the point in our home-based business in which the frame goes up.
