I love to give handmade baby shower gifts. This summer is loaded with baby showers for me so I’ve been looking for cute, useful gifts that I can make quickly and these burp cloths fit the bill perfectly. Babies use so many burp cloths and we wind up grabbing whatever is close. These pretty cloths will get lots of use, just because they are cute. There is also no danger of mixing them up with another mom’s burp cloths.
Materials
Package of pre folded diapers
Fabric
Use pre folded diapers, the thick center makes a perfect guide for dressing them up. Wash and dry the diapers and the fabric so it doesn’t shrink when the new mom washes them.
Cut your fabric to fit the inside panel of the pre folder diapers. I cut mine 6”x20”. This is where you can be creative. You can use baby fabric, fabric that matches the nursery or whatever fabric you have on hand. Use something soft as it will be against baby’s face most of the time.
Iron the fabric, turning under the long edges, pin to the center of the diaper, adjusting the edges as needed.
Sew down each side.
Now for the ends, your fabric will be hanging over so if you have a serger you can serge the ends to match the serged ends of the diaper. I don’t have a serger so I used a zig zag stitch on the backside of the diaper so I could go over the already serged edge.
Trim your fabric close to the stitches and your done!
These look much cuter folded up on a shelf than plain white diapers, and they will hide the spit up stains a little better as well.
Tie a stack with a ribbon and you have a quick, cute, easy baby shower gift.
