Bury Your Ring with the Past

Recently, I wrote an article What Does a Ring Mean? In this article I discussed how I had lost the diamond from my engagement ring. I also talked about how my marriage was still strong even though I no longer have the diamond.

This article lead me to thinking about wedding bands and wedding rings. If my marriage is strong without a ring, what about divorces with the rings? I can only imagine the agony and rememberance of hard times that a wedding band could carry with it, especially if the marriage ended on a bad note.

Some people rush off to sell their diamond or wedding band. Others have them turned into other pieces of jewelry such as a necklace or earrings. However, some people still hold semimetal value in their jewelry and wish to do a little something different with it. Selling it seems too harsh but wearing is a little too much. For these people, I came across a much better idea.

There is an actual website that sells wedding ring coffins. The coffins can cost anywhere from thirty to thirty-five dollars. The coffin safely holds your ring and lets you personalize a message on the outside of the box. If you choose not to create your own message, you may pick from six preprinted brass plates. The plates have phrases such as “Bury the past and move on” or “Six feet isn’t deep enough!”

Customers may choose to actually bury their ring or keep it in the coffin for safe storage in their home or lock box. I think that this idea is great. I can imagine that I, in the unfortunate event of a divorce, would be a person that would have too much anger to wear the diamond but too many memories to let it go. A coffin would be the perfect thing to help ‘bury’ the past.
