Business Idea – Gardener

One example of a hobby that could translate into a home – based business is gardening. Many people enjoy tending to their own large or small flower or vegetable gardens at home. Some people like the way that gardens look but do not have the time or the desire to care for a garden of their own. These people may want to hire a gardener to plant one or more gardens in their yard and keep them maintained throughout the growing season.

Being a gardener is slightly different than operating a lawn care or landscaping business. In fact, it involves elements of each of those types of businesses. Lawn care involves visiting clients on a regular basis, and so does gardening. Landscaping involves selecting plants, developing a design, and planting the plants just like gardening does.

Many people who pursue gardening as a hobby have developed a fairly extensive knowledge of what types of flowers, vegetables, and other plants grow well in their local area. They have also learned through experience how to care for a variety of plants as well as how to design attractive gardens. A good gardener can design a garden to suit any taste, and can even design one that is relatively easy to care for in case the homeowner is interested in just having someone get the garden started so that they themselves can take care of it once it is in place.

As with any other business idea, you will want to go through the process of making a business plan for your gardening business. When you think of starting a business as a gardener, one important consideration is whether spending time tending to other people’s gardens will make you enjoy your own gardening less. For many gardeners this is not a concern, as they enjoy gardening so much that they welcome the additional time that they spend working in the gardens of their clients.
