Busy, Busy Toddlers

I’m amazed that single mothers of young children get anything done. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with Ivy but boy do I get behind in everything. Ivy is a tornado on legs. One minute she’s in the family room, the next she’s hanging off the railing by the stairs.

We took her to the movies today which probably wasn’t the best idea, two hours of sitting in the theater left her with lots of pent up energy. As I write this her sister is trying to entertain her long enough for me to write but when she runs in and says “Meesi, come play with my toys?” How can I resist?

If you are a single mother of young children you must have the patience of Job and the ability to multi task that the rest of us have not mastered yet. It’s only seven o’clock, but I’m ready for bed. Her energy makes me tired! I know that being here is kind of a treat for her so she is probably more energetic than usual. Our house isn’t really childproofed so we have to keep an eye on her at all times. The toys she has here are new every time she visits because she doesn’t get to play with them all the time.

Ivy wants us to read her books, and color with her, and spell her name in magnets on the fridge. I have a renewed respect for single moms of young children. This is a difficult job, those little ones are on the go from morning til night, they are busy and want to share their busyness with everyone. They are learning and everything is new so they are so excited.

We had snow last night and when Ivy woke up this morning she was so excited because “snow white” was outside, she wanted to go step in it, because she likes it. So that’s what we did. Everything else can wait.
