Button Fun!

I know so many people who have button collections. Oddly enough I have found myself with a box full of buttons and I do not even collect them. Do you have a little box of buttons sitting around? You can use buttons for fun lessons and crafts with your preschooler. So put those old buttons to good use.

Sorting

You can have your preschooler sort the buttons by size, color or shape. This, of course, depends on the type of buttons you have. You can begin by showing your child how to sort by color and then allow her to continue the process. Get as creative as you want to make this activity fun. The more unique the buttons are the more fun and challenging ti will be.

Counting

Buttons make great counters. You can give your child flashcards with numbers and have her give you the amount of buttons as the number on the card. Buttons can be used for adding and subtracting as well. Even though your toddler will not understand the equation she will understand the concept. Just give her a chance and you will be surprised just how natural math really is!

Patterns

Patterns will depend on the type of buttons you have. You can set up a simple pattern and have your child complete it. As she understands the pattern continue to challenge her with new patterns. Finally have her build her own.

Crafts

Buttons can be used to make fun crafts. You can have your child simply glue the buttons on paper or even fabric. Sometimes the simplest activities and crafts are the most enjoyable for a preschooler. Use buttons to make faces, shapes, animals or objects and glue them to paper.

Buttons are an easy and fun way to teach simple concepts and simple crafts. Just get creative!
