Have you heard of debit merchandise? Knowing where to find it can save you big bucks. And just after the holidays is the best time to find it. What is debit merchandise? Read this article to find out all about it.
Debit merchandise is merchandise that has been purchased from a customer and then returned for any reason. Perhaps a button fell off of a shirt, the customer bought the wrong size but took off the tags, or the customer just wasn’t happy with the item. Once classified as “used,” this merchandise can not be put back on to the floor and sold as new. And, it isn’t usually sent back to the manufacturer. If you ask a manager of your favorite store, you can often buy this debit merchandise for pennies on the dollar.
Sometimes, a particular store will offer a special sale of these items at a warehouse location. These sales are never advertised and are by invitation only. If you are lucky enough to get on the list, you can score some great deals. Get friendly with the store manager, or contact the corporate office to find out how you can get on this list.
One year, we attended such a sale for Eddie Bauer. We got tons of merchandise for a tenth of the retail cost. Among the items we picked up were long sleeve button-down shirts for my husband to wear at work, dresses, skirts and sweaters for me, a comforter cover, kids clothing, household items and a gorgeously thick luxury bath robe that just happened to be embroidered with my mother-in-law’s initials. The sale took place in February. There is a good reason for this. Most returns are made right after the holidays. Take advantage of this fact, and get more for less.
