Now that you know how to get even the most camera shy subjects to flash their pearly whites it would be a shame if you still walked away with blurry shots. It has happened to me. I get my little one to ham it up like there’s no tomorrow and my shot still comes out looking as though I took it during an earthquake. What gives? Doesn’t the camera know I can’t get my 3-year-old to smile forever?
I’ll admit I should be blaming my technique more than my camera, still there are cameras on the market that make life easier for parents who are forced to bribe their children just so they can snap a single pic. For example, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T2 digital not only features face detection (my camera also has this feature but that doesn’t guarantee I capture a grin in every shot) it is also comes equipped with advance technology. The new smile shutter locks in on your subject and waits until it detects a smile. Actually, it waits for your subject’s mouth to open slightly before it takes the shot. It’s a huge gift for snap happy parents with toddlers or moody teens whose smiles come and go as fast as Speedy Gonzalez runs. Your subjects do need to sit still enough for the camera to read the smile, but you’d be surprised by how effective the feature really is. What’s more, the Cyber-shot DSC-T2 includes 4GB of on-board memory (which means it can hold more than 1000 images).
DXG also offers a camera with similar face and smile detection features plus 10 mega pixels for less than $200. It seems impossible given you would typically have to spend more than double that amount for the same features. The camera also comes equipped with advanced flash controls, auto contrast management and auto focus tracking.
