Passion and enthusiasm are good things when one has taken on a home-based business, right? Well, sure they are—but are there ever times when too much passion or blind enthusiasm can get you into trouble? Is this a situation where there really can be too much of a good thing?
As a rule, I have to believe that having passion and enthusiasm about what you are doing for work is a fantastic thing! Who doesn’t want to feel inspired and thrilled every morning just to leap out of bed and get to work? And, overall, I cannot help but think that even the bloopers and mistakes that can come from being overly exuberant can be overcome—but there are those who believe that we need to temper our passion with some healthy doses of practicality and realism, especially when it comes to business choices and decisions.
Risk in business is good and passion can inspire us to take more risk, but passion can also urge us to make foolhardy decisions and take wild risks and some of these might not bounce our way. Overall, I really do believe that it is better to have passion and feel inspired and excited about the work we do than it is to not. After all, I think it is easier to temper our natural passion for our work, than it is to try to stay motivated when we don’t have that passion!
Passion and exuberance CAN get us in to trouble, but it can lead us down the path to business success and joy as well. So many of us go through life on auto-pilot, just doing what we think we are supposed to that having the opportunity to build a home business and channel our energy into something we truly love is a gift.
